Competitive Spelling

After winning a classroom Bee in 5th grade, Cat aimed to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. And with years of hard work and perseverance, she did just that - twice. After winning 1st place in local, regional and state competitions, she finished 8th in the nation out of 11 million spellers, appearing on ABC prime-time live broadcast for the Championship Finals.
Cat studied two to three hours a day, every day for three years. She immersed herself in words and spelling patterns from other languages, such as Greek, Latin, Italian, French, Spanish, German.
She was fortunate to study with Jeff Kirsch, Ph.D, professor at the University of Wisconsin, who coached her every week in foreign languages.
